“Combining textbook ripening conditions and a century old Fanucci family’s hand-press process bring forth complex and flavorful notes,” said winemaker Robert Franucci. “We have not seen wines this refined since the 1997 and 2005 vintages.”
Ironically, an iconic French wine poster sought out colors years ago that ran the spectrum of red wine shades and named this selection’s red cherry hue as “pensee”, meaning “to think,” in French.
The stunning artwork comes from the brush of St. Helena artist and winemaker’s wife Layla Fanucci.
This deep ruby hued selection ($58) exudes intense dark cherry aromas. The small clusters received an additional four to six week of hang time during growing season that resulted in concentrated flavors.
Ripe, jammy blackberry and boysenberry flavors pique the palate for another long sip. Tart cherry and baking spice add to the excitement. As air explodes in the glass, the tannins linger and soften into a memorable finish.
