Westcomb is one of the very cool up-and-coming outerwear manufacturers to hit the market in recent years. What makes them stand out among in the world of outerwear is that the company is family-owned, family-run and all products are made in Vancouver, Canada.
While the Westcomb brand is four years old, the Yiu family has more than fifteen years experience making apparel for other high-end Canadian brands.
Here's what's coming down the pipe from Westcomb this fall:
Arcane Hoody: Using a Schoeller® C Change shell fabric for stretch, strength and protection and Primaloft® sport laminate insulation for lightweight, efficient warmth, the Arcane’s athletic fit and compressible synthetic construction maximizes warmth with minimal weight in the snowiest, coldest conditions. Men’s sizes. (21 oz, $380)
Tango Hoody: Feathery light and with a durable Pertex Equilibrium shell for wind and water protection and a Polartec® Alpha® insulating layer for heat retention, the Tango breathes as your intensity rises. Perfect companion for skiing, snowshoeing or a fall day on a crag. (14 oz, $200)
Pemberton Parka: Breathable, wind and waterproof Schoeller® C Changelocks out the biting Iditarod cold and gusty, wet Nor’easters, while the high loft 900-fill power HutteriteDown insulation locks in your body’s heat. Hutterite down comes from the Hutterite communities in Alberta and is only collected from mature geese. Mature geese who produce feather clusters that are fully formed and able to trap the maximum amount of air and keep you warm. It's also twice soap cleaned rather than chemically cleaned (which does less damage to the down) and is twice sorted, making Hutterite down 90% to 95% down and only 5% to 10% small feather. The Pemberton Parka and its Hutterite down innards will protect you from your head to your knees without the weight while on a dog sled, winter camping atop Mt. Washington or lost in the Canadian wilderness. ($600)
Boreal Top: A light, technical fleece layer with Polartec® WindPro® construction to quadruple the wind protection of traditional fleece. A soft waffle-faced interior you warm and dry during intense cold weather activity. (14 oz, $170)
Glow Pullover: The Polartec® Classic®100 Micro LUXE feels like cashmere, but has the warmth, wicking and quick drying properties that only synthetic fabrics can offer. The bold colors make this a must-have piece for your winter activewear collection. (9 oz, $120)
Soho Jacket: A Polartec NeoShell makes this sleek jacket waterproof, windproof, and breathable. Technical elements and sharp looking relaxed fit make this jacket appropriate for the urban lifestyle and the great outdoors. (18 oz, $500)
Canadians know all about cold. I trust them to make products to keep me warm. Of course I’m always going to lean towards U.S.-made products first, but Canada is like the cool cousin up the street. It’s cool to buy Canadian-made products. You can buy these cool Canadian products this fall.
If you live in Minneapolis, you don't have a ton of options at the moment to buy Westcomb products. According to the dealer locator, you're limited to 45 Degrees in Stillwater and Gear & Training in Rogers.
