While celebs can attempt to hide under hats and fend off papparazzi with oversized shades, stars like Jessica Simpson have a harder time dodging the bullet.
As one of the top ranked searched celebrities by search engines, Simpson is the constant target of gossip, fashion critics and raves and those media-in-waiting for her to take a spill.
We're obsessed with her love life, her shoe line and what she's going to come up with next, but diagnosing her with a disease?
India-based Meri News has published an article about Simpson linking her to Histrionic Personality Disorder (HPD). The article is filed under its 'Entertainment' section and was published today.
"One of the biggest characteristics [of HPD] is the desire for attention," writes Citizen Journalist Roberto Carlos. "While people crave attention, there are others who crave for it in excess; sometimes people in reality TV Shows." His target - J.Simp.
"In the case of Jessica Simpson," Carlos says. "She received attention on the MTV Reality TV Show called "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica" before she left Nick to seek better opportunities. The show included several private or intimate moments of the stars, going to the extent of showing Simpson using the toilet."
Carlos continues comment on the star's early career.
"The various Christian Evangelical groups condemned her for "too much sex" and she seemed to relish the attention by responding that she was "glad that she did not go into the Christian Music Industry." The response shows how she adored the negative attention as if it was better than positive attention."
The "Citizen Journalist" and writer for the site begs the question if all of "Hollywood suffers from the same disease of Histrionic Personality Disorder."
HPD, is a psychiatric personality disorder characterized by a pattern of "excessive emotionality and attention-seeking" usually beginning in early adulthood. While reports and studies are unable to find a direct link to the cause of HPD in individuals, early childhood events such as deaths in the immediate family, divorce of parents and genetics may be involved (Wikipedia).
Ironically, psychoanalytic theories "incriminate seductive and authoritarian attitudes by fathers of [HPD] patients," of which Carlos does not comment in regards to the relationship of Simpson with either parent.
He does call into question the recent love scenario between Simpson and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo writing, "[It] cannot be commented about because the underwriter does not know if the love was real or staged to gain attention."
