Vogue Knitting LIVE will be making its second appearance in Chicago from Friday to Sunday, November 1 to November 3, and this year's expo has even more fun-filled goodies for knitters and yarn enthusiasts than last year's spectacular show.
Held at the Palmer House Hilton, Vogue Knitting LIVE is a three-day event honoring fiber, fashion, and education, attracting some of the best talent and teachers in the business for lectures and classes. The Marketplace will house vendors from all over the globe from as far away as Chile, and from many local yarn shops in Chicago including Knitche in Downers Grove and Mia Bella in Highland Park.
The class and lecture schedule is extensive and broad, covering every knitting topic from the set-in sleeve to designing your own knitwear. A list of classes can be found here, and registration for a class automatically gets you a ticket to the Marketplace. Some classes are in more than one session, and others require a materials fee (noted in the class description), so be sure to exercise caution when registering for classes.
This year's expo has much more to entice the casual knitter or stroller through the Vogue Knitting LIVE map. In addition to a knitted art gallery and a chance to meet the "knitterati," or master teachers in their craft, the 2013 show includes a Spooky Scary Scavenger Hunt featuring Anna Hrachovec's mochimochi creatures. Ten zombies and ghosts will be hidden throughout the Marketplace, with the discoverers of the creatures winning a copy of either Teeny-Tiny Mochimochi or Super Scary Mochimochi, both written by Hrachovec.
Nicky Epstein's Knits for Dolls and Crochet for Dolls works will be on display in a gallery, and both Kelly Fleek and Anna Hrachovec will be offering presentations in the Knitted Art Gallery this year. Also, the Knit Couture fashion shows this year will feature designs in Malabrigo and Zealana, but this will also be one of the first chances to see a collection of designs from contestants of The Fiber Factor in person on a runway.
Returning to the Marketplace is the Beginner Lounge, where Vicki Howell will be on hand to teach knitting and crochet to any new student for free. The Beginner Lounge is sponsored by Bernat Yarns and will run through all three days of the show.
More surprises to come this year in Vogue Knitting LIVE. Registration is up on the VKLive website, and classes must be purchased in advance.
