The Originals” has cast another important role. Leah Pipes has signed on to “The Vampire Diaries” potential spinoff as the only human lead character.

On Monday, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news exclusively that Pipes had been cast as Camille. The character is described as “a bartender who is fascinated by the question of whether people can be born bad. After a tragic event in her family, Cami became a psychology student in order to study human behavior in the hopes of proving that people can’t just be ‘evil.’ Her fixation on the subject might lead to a bond with Klaus (Joseph Morgan).”

The Originals” centers on the Original family of vampires as Klaus returns to the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans, a town he helped build centuries ago, and is reunited with his diabolical former protégé Marcel (Charles Michael Davis). Elijah (Daniel Gillies) is intent on helping his self-destructive brother find redemption and must side with Marcel’s enemies in order to keep Klaus in line.

Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley), Daniella Pineda (Sophie) and Danielle Campbell (Davina) have all been previously announced as cast members for “The Originals,” which will air as a backdoor pilot during the April 25 episode of “The Vampire Diaries.” Julie Plec will write the script and serve as showrunner if the pilot goes to series.

Pipes is known for her role in “Sorority Row” and has also appeared in “The Defenders”, “The Deep End,” “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” “Ghost Whisperer” and “Life is Wild.”

The Vampire Diaries” airs Thursdays at 7 p.m. CST on The CW. “The Originals” will air on April 25.
