USCBP agents arrest three with 184.2 pounds of marijuana

In a USCBP press release dated Tuesday. March 5, 2013, the El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents announced the seizure of 184.2 pounds of marijuana and the arrest of 3 men attempting to smuggle the marijuana into the United States.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:51 p.m., when an agent observed five men illegally enter the United States from Mexico east of the Calexico Port of Entry and walk north towards Interstate 8. Four of the men had large bundles strapped to their backs. When the reached the interstate highway, the four men with the bundles quickly loaded them into a waiting Plymouth Voyager. Two of the men climbed into the vehicle with the driver while the other three ran back across the border.

As the vehicle drove away, Border Patrol agents who were positioned nearby, disabled the vehicle with a controlled tire deflation device. The agents then arrested the driver, a United States citizen, and the two other men who were citizens of Mexico. The bundles of marijuana were weighed and came to 184.2 pounds with an estimated street value of over $147,000.

The driver, passengers, vehicle and marijuana were turned over to the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation
