US officials believe a new leaker is taking after Edward Snowden

U.S. officials confirmed to CNN that there’s a new Edward Snowden in town. Officials believe that a leaker is following in Snowden’s footprints and is leaking classified documents. Proof of this lies in an article published by Glenn Greenwald on Tuesday that details information about databases containing terrorist names.

The document it references was from August of 2013, which is after Snowden was forced to leave the country. Way back in February, Greenwald was certain that others had been inspired by Snowden’s courage and at least one other person has been leaking government documents. As of yet, that person remains unidentified, but according to CNN, government officials are working on sussing out his/her identity.

So far, even what and how many documents have been leaked is a mystery but it is known that the documents leaked so far have been marked ‘secret’ and “noforn,” which means not meant to be shared with foreign governments. Both of these distinctions mean the documents are of a lower class level than the documents shared by Edward Snowden. He leaked 1.7 million “Top Secret” or higher classified documents.

A report published by Glenn Greenwald’s The Intercept noted secret documents revealed a terrorist watch list, including those on no-fly lists, has increased at least tenfold in the time of Barack Obama’s presidency. One document, produced by the National Counterterrorism Center, says that there are currently 680,000 people in the world that the U.S. suspects of having terrorist involvements. Of those people, 280,000 aren’t part of organized terrorist groups.

A million people are on the Terrorist Identities Datamart Environment.

Do you think a new Edward Snowden is a good thing for Americans?
