University of Georgia head football coach Mark Richt announced on Friday that he has dismissed three freshmen from the team.
Sanford Seay of Leesburg (WR); Nick Marshall of Rochelle (CB); and Chris Sanders of Tucker (DB) were called to meet with Coach Richt on Friday morning. Afterwards, they were dismissed from the team for “violating team rules.”
"It's a privilege to play college football and to be a part of this team and University," said Coach Richt on www.georgiadogs.com. "Along with that privilege comes certain responsibilities. Mistakes were made and part of our job is helping them learn from mistakes. Going forward, we are committed to assisting them find opportunities where they can continue their education."
Exactly what the three did to “violate team rules” was not established by Coach Richt. However, ESPN later reported that the trio was involved in an incident connect to the theft of money. This has not been confirmed by the University of Georgia or by Coach Richt.
Seay, Sanders and Marshall were part of the 2011 “Dream Team” of UGA recruits. Marshall and Sanders both played in 2011, although Sanders was hurt after only three games, and missed the rest of the season. Marshall did play in 13 games and made five tackles over the season. Seay was redshirted, but was expected to see significant playing time in the upcoming 2012-13 season.
