In an email sent Oct. 12 to supporters, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) called on a song by Paul McCartney to send a message to House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to end the government shutdown.
“As we're going through the nightmare of the Republican Party's reckless government shutdown -- a self-inflicted wound that is entirely unnecessary -- I thought we needed to try a new way to get through to our opponents. So I wanted to send a special musical message to Speaker John Boehner and the right-wing Republicans, urging them to open the doors of government for the American people and, in the words of Paul McCartney, 'Let 'em in!'

“In times like these, it's hard to have a sense of humor -- but sometimes we need a little humor to make it through. The fact is, though, this government shutdown is doing real harm to our economy and to millions of families all across the country. So join me in telling Speaker Boehner and the Republicans that their reckless government shutdown is hurting Americans,” Boxer's email concluded.
