Two Shih Tzus were left at Johnson County Animal Control in Franklin, Indiana by a man claiming they were left on his front porch in a small plastic crate, according to Fox59. The Shih Tzus were horribly neglected, emaciated, matted and too weak to stand. Because their teeth are so rotted, the veterinarian was unable to determine an age.
The matting on the two dogs was so bad that their eyes and mouths were matted shut. They were unable to see or eat. The staff at the animal shelter had no idea how long either dog was in this condition but clearly they had been neglected for years. Animal shelter staff speculate they were kept in a space too small for them to move around as they have no muscle mass to speak of.
The small crate the dogs were found in was filthy with urine and feces. There was a small bowl with a handful of dog kibble but with their mouths matted shut, they were unable to eat.
The staff spent hours cutting away the matting and the sweet-natured dogs had their first meal. The dogs face a long road of recovery but are now in good hands. Since this is a criminal case, the dogs are being held as evidence.
