Transformers Creative Director: 'We want this to be the definitive Transformers'

Transformers is and has been one of the most popular franchises in all of entertainment for more than 28 years and the series has crossed hairs with all kinds of media from television, to comic books, to movies and once again back to video games.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is the second installment in the High Moon Studios' series and it looks to surpass its predecessor, War for Cybertron, so much that it has hopes to be the staple in the series' existence.

Senior Creative Director of High Moon Studios Dave Cravens said Fall of Cybertron takes place just after the events of War for Cybertron.

"It takes place on Cybertron," Cravens said. "Our story takes place at the end of the war between the decepticons and autobots, where Megatron blames the events and results of the war on Optimus Prime."

He said Fall of Cybertron has a huge story and a wide range of gameplay that will engage gamers and keep them playing for hours.

"We have an extremely good multiplayer mode where you can build your own transformer," Cravens said. "Fans will spend hours creating their transformer and hours fighting with it."

He said each character's controls (Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC, etc) would essentially be the same; however, the weapons with which they use will be completely exclusive to each character in the game.

"If you have a favorite weapon from the single player, you can access it, buy it and then upgrade it [in the multiplayer mode].

"All single player weapons are accessible on the multiplayer mode, but you may have to play a little longer to get access to certain weapons," Cravens said.

Cravens said he and the rest of the development team have made great improvements to the world, as it will surpass what everyone saw in War for Cybertron.

"The world levels look and feel better than the previous game, War for Cybertron, and they all are so vast because of the integration of the Unreal Engine 3," Cravens said.

He went on to say the single player mode should take the average gamer between eight and ten hours to finish. Others could even finish it in six. It all depends on your style and how you choose to proceed through the game.

Cravens said they believed War for Cybertron was a solid game, but they all felt like there were missing things they wanted to add to this next installment.

"After War for Cybertron, we felt like it was a good game, but there were characters and aspects we really wanted to include into Fall of Cybertron that we couldn't add in the last game.

"From a gameplay perspective, we want to tell a better story and make it more meaningful for the player. We want people to care about the machines," Cravens said.

Anyone curious about DLC information can temper their interest because it was said that they are not finished with them yet and don't have any news to share regarding the topic.

Finally, Cravens said they believe this is the essential Transformers game and they hope fans share the same sentiment.

"In the end we want this to be the definitive Transformers game of all-time, it's that good," Cravens said. "We want players to feel and agree with that."

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron will be released this coming Tuesday and will be playable on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC.
