At least three local chains, Walgreens, Toys "R" Us, and Publix are setting out bins in their stores to collect toys for the U.S Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. Launched in 1991, when the Secretary of Defense approved Toys for Tots as an official activity of the U. S. Marine Corps and an official mission of the Marine Corps Reserve in 1995, the toy bins now show up in all 50 states.

The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is an official Better Business Bureau charity, has earned a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, and repeatedly ranks on the Philanthropy 400 list.
