Top 35 programs of 2012: #12 Signature piece (Photos)

Kaitlyn Weaver/Andrew Poje CAN
2012 World Figure Skating Championships free dance

Few skaters can lay claim to a signature piece, a program that is so well-known that the music becomes associated with them. Last season was a breakthrough for Kaitlyn Weaver/Andrew Poje, and this free dance played a huge role in orchestrating that success. It's a program that will always be known as their signature piece.

Ice dance is known for melodrama, and this free dance is encompasses all the positive attributes of melodrama. Through their movement, connection, and emotions, Weaver/Poje draw you in, and you get so absorbed that you forget they are in an athletic competition.

This instance of their Je Suis Malade free dance, at the World Championships where they finished a career-high fourth, was the last one they skated in competition. And in addition to all the emotion, there was one unintended addition, blood – Weaver cut her right knee midway through the program.

It’s ok, you can cry. Angelika Krylova did.
