Want to celebrate Earth Day with a relaxing trip to a local spa? Try these top bay area “Green Spas”. From organic and locally produced products, to solar panels and kitchen composting, each of these special spas aims to leave a light footprint on the planet.

1. Bardessono-Napa
Solar panels, salvaged building materials, organic, locally sourced spa products and linens, you name it, they’ve done it. Bardessono has not only incorporated real ways to conserve water, energy and power into their spa/resort, but they’ve done it with beauty in mind.

2. SpaGaia-Napa
Another Napa Valley Green Spa wonder, Spa Gaia features over 70 different eco-friendly initiatives in it’s hotel and spa construction and design. Winner of 5 Green Leaves from istaygreen.com, Spa Gaia is also Gold Level LEED certified by the US Green Building Council

3. Cavallo Point-San Francisco
A San Francisco resort and spa located in the Presidio, Cavallo Point was named "New Green American Landmark" by Travel+Leisure, and is also Gold Level LEED certified. This eco-hip hotel is the winner of numerous awards for their efforts to “keep it clean and keep it green”.

4. Osmosis-Occidental
A founder of the Green Spa Network, Osmosis is an Eco-Spa pioneer. Their unique and creative approach combines innovative initiatives such as creating their own on-site wetland to process greywater, as well as more traditional green approaches, like composting and recycling. This sweet day spa in Hayes Valley uses everything from massage tables made of sustainably harvested wood, to towels made of bamboo. No VOC paints adorn the beautiful walls and their products are about as eco-friendly as you can get. Their thoughtful and creative green approach is reflected in every area of the spa.

6. Avra Organics-San Francisco
Avra Organics Day Spa in Fisherman’s Wharf integrates a number of eco-friendly approaches into their spa environment. Reclaimed and recycled materials shape the spa design and natural cleaning materials are used throughout.

7. boon hotel and spa-Guerneville
A boutique hotel and spa in the Russian River area, boon features a saline solar powered pool and hot tub, organic linens and organic spa treatments. They serve hormone-free meats and organic produce in their on-site bistro. Not only are they green, but they also demonstrate a commitment to supporting local businesses, using  many locally made products and services.

8. Oceano Hotel and Spa-Half Moon Bay-http://www.oceanohalfmoonbay.com
As one of the only full service hotels in San Mateo County to be eco certified by the county, Oceano is a pioneer in the Half Moon Bay area. This green hotel is also part of the Bay Area Green business program and features a number of eco-friendly elements throughout, including bamboo linens and low-VOC paints.

9. Green Bliss Eco Spa
Based out of Los Angeles, this mobile green spa company does business all over California. Possibly their greenest feature is their mobility, since they don’t have to add to their carbon footprint by putting resources into building and maintaining a physical location. They encourage employees to carpool to job sites and use alternative forms of transportation and feature all organic, paraben free products in their treatments.

10. Solage-Calistoga

Solage was awarded a Hospitality Design award for Green Design by Hospitality Design magazine. Like other green spa resorts, Solage features solar panels, composting and waste reduction throughout. However, Solage stands out from the crowd with their special “mud bar”, which lets you get in touch with the earth in a whole new way.
