The movie, starring Ethan Dizon, Skylan Brooks, Anthony Mackie Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks, Jeffrey Wright and Akinnuoye-Agbaje, is set in New York City during a sweltering summer in the Brooklyn projects.
Mister , a precocious 13-year-old played by Brooks is being raised by his hard-living mother (Hudson). She's arrested and Mister must fend on his own while she's in jail.
He and friend, nine-year-old Pete (Dizon), band together to eek out an existence, scrounging for food and whatever else they can find while avoiding child protective services workers who want to put them in a home.
The uplifting story, written by Michael Starrbury, is about survival, friendship and ultimately vulnerability.
In May, CodeBlack Entertainment announced that it had acquired the US rights for the distribution of the film. Lionsgate announced it would offer the picture in a limited release Oct.11.
