According to a news release posted Aug. 1 at TomPetty.com, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and longtime backing band celebrated the release of their new studio album Hypnotic Eye by inviting the late night talk show host and his audience into their rehearsal space for a special performance. The album, which hit shelves to critical acclaim on July 29, marks the 13th collaboration between Petty and the band.

Kimmel chatted with the ex-Travelling Wilburys star briefly and joked about the experience of having an audience at a rehearsal as being "a worst dream come true." The "Refugee" hitmakers performed three tracks from the new album, including: "American Dream Plan B," "Forgotten Man," and "U Get Me High." The entire segment can be viewed here.

Fans can purchase Hypnotic Eye in digital, vinyl and Blu-ray audio editions, as well as on CD. Vinyl lovers can purchase the album either as a single disc or as double album that includes an additional track.

The Hypnotic Eye Tour will feature special guest Steve Winwood and kicks off Aug. 3 in San Diego, California, at Viejas Arena and wraps up Oct. 10 in Inglewood, California, at The Forum. The Canadian leg begins Aug. 14 in Vancouver, B.C. at Rogers Arena and finishes Aug. 28 at Montreal's Bell Centre. Fans purchasing a concert ticket will receive a copy of the new record.

Petty and band will also make a couple of festival headline appearances, which include Aug. 9 in San Francisco at Outside Land Music and Arts Festival, as well as Sept. 6 in Arlington, Virginia, at Interlocking Music Festival. For more details, click here.
