Tom Hanks' typewriter collection grows: Took old Corona on world tour (Video)

Tom Hanks could be any neighbor next door with an elaborate collection. Hanks collects old manual typewriters and he even took one on tour for the Larry Crowne press junket around the world. According to Hanks, who spoke about his collection on Wednesday morning during the Live with Regis and Kelly show, his typewriter stash is getting bigger as he has come to have dozens of the manual machines hanging around the house.

“I have almost 200 old portable manual typewriters. Most of them are actually working and I keep them rotating,” said Tom Hanks.

The oddity of collections can’t be beat unless one decides to take their personal collection around the world. With the promotion of Larry Crown, Tom Hanks took one of his typewriters, his old manual Corona Typewriter, on the road and used Twitter to share the photos of the equipment on vacation too. While this wasn’t a gnome that saw the sites, it definitely gave everyone a good laugh to see a highly successful actor and his typewriter on a world tour.

Obviously some collections are rarer than others, but collecting typewriters isn’t all that quirky. As collections go, it is more about what makes you happy to see in your house rather than what costs the most.

Check out Tom Hanks’ photo typewriter grams online and don’t forget to look at the particular picture of the typewriter in bed. Yep, even key strokes need a good night sleep.
