The upcoming midterm elections in 2014 will be an all important gauge on several fronts. First, 2014 will be a test to see how deep and intense is the anger of the electorate toward the two major political Parties in Washington. And second, the midterms will be referendum on Obamacare.
Americans have an opportunity today to get a glimpse into the mood of the electorate. Longtime Democratic operative Terry McAuliffe is running for governor of Virginia. That election is today. If he wins it will be an ominous signal that the Obama machine has fulfilled several of its goals -- get enough voters to believe the lies so that no Democrat pays a price at the polls, and put in place enough Democratic governors to tip the 2014 midterms and the 2016 presidential election to the Democrats.
Gov. Chris Christie, R-N.J., is facing a reelection bid today as well. But New Jersey is not considered an accurate gauge of the entire electorate due to its ultra-liberal bent on most issues. The only thing a Christie victory will prove is that a Republican can win in a blue state if he or she acts and sounds like a Democrat. It may work in New Jersey, but not in Oklahoma, South Carolina, Alabama, or Texas.
Anger and rage toward the Washington elitist ruling class will count for nothing unless the electorate gets organized to oust the biggest offenders, or those who have supported them, once and for all.
One cannot claim that America is headed in the wrong direction while at the same time voting for those politicians who have shown time and again that they are the very ones who are taking America in the wrong direction. This is precisely why a McAuliffe victory in Virginia today will be disastrous.
Are you angry about Obamacare, its high out of pocket deductibles, its skyrocketing premiums, and its limitation of your choices? Americans need to be reminded that you cannot be taken seriously if you turn right around and vote back into office the very ones who gave us this fiasco.
Go back and look at the record, which is well-documented. Every single Republican in Congress voted against Obamacare. And all but two dozen Democrats voted in favor of this healthcare scheme that has so enraged most of middle America.
But Republicans are certainly not off the hook. The Republican leadership in the House and Senate is known to compromise on issues that directly impact your freedoms.
In short, politicians in both Parties such as Lindsey Graham, John Boehner, Nancy Pelosi, Mitch McConnell, and Dianne Feinstein need to be sent to the ash heap of political refuse.
Will these changes actually occur, however?
That remains to be seen. Americans overall do not pay close enough attention to politics to recognize their own contradictory views and actions. They hate the current Congress, but not their own congressman. They rail against the ineffectiveness of the Senate but believe their own senator is doing a great job. They are now fully aware of just how thoroughly Obama deceived them on a multiplicity of issues, but still think he's a pretty nice guy.
Thus, today's election results may indicate the direction in which we are headed for 2014. And nothing is certain.
The pundits say that 2014 is a golden opportunity for the electorate to make some momentous changes in Congress, given its rage toward incumbents and candidates who share their mindset.
But I wouldn't count on it. Obama lied incessantly on critical issues yet many citizens still support him. He even claims now that he never said if you like your current health plan and doctor you can keep them, in spite of the fact that we have him on video saying exactly that at least 29 times.
Americans are a gullible lot and easily duped. Today, in Virginia in particular, we shall see just how thoroughly Obama has been able to dupe them.
