Today’s Colorado ski and snow report: Five-day report and a mid-morning update

Earlier this morning, we ran a quick hitting snow report so you could check the totals before you packed up the car and headed up there. Now, with the lifts open and running across the state it’s time to step back and take it all in… That is, the five-day totals and the latest open terrain report, which gets better every day.

You’ll find all that info below this copy, so skip to it if you’re tired of reading this. But, if you’re curious about current road conditions and the forecast, stay right here.

First, the three highways mentioned earlier this morning – US 6 Loveland Pass, US 285 from about Jefferson to the Highway 24 intersection, and Red Mountain Pass (US 550 between Ouray and Silverton) – are still closed, and we expect them to stay that way for awhile since snow is still falling steadily in the mountains.

Expect heavy, slow traffic from about Idaho Springs to the tunnel with icy snow-packed driving conditions from just west of Georgetown and up on I-70. Same thing for Berthoud Pass over to Winter Park. Then, expect the same thing going back this afternoon.

A chance for snow is forecast every day this coming week through next weekend, except for Wednesday and Thursday. It really looks like the overall winter weather pattern has finally swung in Colorado’s favor.

Following this storm we expect that most Colorado resorts will get very close to 100 percent open this week as they evaluate the snow conditions after today’s snowfall. Part of that terrain-opening decision is based on what the wind has done to the snow as far as how and where it accumulates.

The five-day totals below start with what was reported this morning from the snow that started yesterday. The last number is the grand total for the past five days…
