Today Sept. 27, 2013 Wizards of the Coast's newest "Magic: The Gathering" expansion set "Theros" hits store shelves. The set features 249 cards and heralds the beginning of a new Standard season with the "Innistrad" block ("Innistrad," "Dark Ascension," and "Avacyn Restored") rotating out.
Tonight is the last "Friday Night Magic" of the month where players can compete for an alternate art foil Experiment One. Those who participate in release events this weekend Sept. 27-29, 2013 at their local game stores can also get their hands on a foil alternate art Bident of Thassa and complete the second quest in the Hero's Path to earn The Harvester while supplies last.
In the plane of "Theros:"
Gods, heroes, and monsters are an everyday fact of life. Hydras, gorgons, satyrs, and other creatures of myth inhabit this wild, mystical place. In Theros, heroes challenge themselves in the untamed lands beyond the city walls, set sail on the raging seas, and learn their destiny from divine oracles.
"Theros" is available in booster packs ($3.99 each), fat packs ($39.99 each), and five intro packs: "Manipulative Monstrosities," "Blazing Beasts of Myth," "Devotion to Darkness," "Favors from Nyx," and "Anthousa's Army" ($14.99 each). There will also be an event deck "Inspiring Heroics" ($24.99) at a later date.
This weekend also marks the first major Standard tournament with "Theros" cards legal in it at the StarCityGames.com Open in Worcester, Mass. on Sept. 29, 2013. Those who can't attend can view the live stream to see intersting new decks players brew for this highly competitive "Magic" event.
