There can be only one reason liberals instinctively call conservatives racists. Like Pavlov's dogs, they have been conditioned to do so by their masters in the Democrat-media complex.
Ivan Petrovich Pavlov was a Russian scientist who won the Nobel Prize in 1904 for his studies of the digestive system. While studying the impact of saliva on digestion, he noticed that his test subjects - dogs - salivated even when there was no food present. Eventually, he realized the dogs were responding to the lab coats worn by his assistants. He expanded his experiments to determine the reason.
According to the official Nobel Prize website:
In a series of experiments, Pavlov then tried to figure out how these phenomena were linked. For example, he struck a bell when the dogs were fed. If the bell was sounded in close association with their meal, the dogs learnt to associate the sound of the bell with food. After a while, at the mere sound of the bell, they responded by drooling.
His findings proved useful in a variety of ways, such as anti-phobia treatment, as nobelprize.org explains:
Conditioning forms the basis of much of learned human behavior. Nowadays, this knowledge has also been exploited by commercial advertising. An effective commercial should be able to manipulate the response to a stimulus (like seeing a product's name) which initially does not provoke any feeling. The objective is to train people to make the "false" connection between positive emotions (e.g. happiness or feeling attractive) and the particular brand of consumer goods being advertised.
In the same way, liberals who get all their "news" or opinion from networks like MSNBC, hear nothing but anti-conservative propaganda. All they ever hear is the party line that conservatives are stupid, evil, racist spawn of the Devil.
Eventually, all that is needed is the mention of the name 'Palin' or 'Beck' and the conditioning takes over.
For example, a Florida man received more than two years in prison for threatening a Republican Congresswoman. At his sentencing, he told the judge he watched too much MSNBC.
There is no reasoning or debating those who have been conditioned in such a way. If asked to prove their assertions, they cannot, but they can provide links to short, out-of-context video clips that really prove nothing.
In some ways, there really is no difference between the well-conditioned liberal drone and a follower of a powerful cult leader. With such people there is no reasoning until the person is capable of engaging in critical thinking.
This begs the question - who is ultimately responsible?
Those who follow this column are familiar with the term "Democrat-media complex." There is a reaon this phrase is used.
If one could watch most network or cable news outlets simultaneously, one would find that almost all of them use the exact terminology and the exact same phrases - almost in the exact same way. Most of the time, these phrases echo talking points put out by the Democratic Party.
This bias was far more subtle years ago, but recently it has become blatanly obvious, and some media outlets do not even try to disguise their bias anymore. They all repeat whatever the powers-that-be in the Democratic Party say.
Anyone who deviates from the official line is castigated as an outcast by the left.
Liberal blogger Lee Stranahan wrote about this phenomenon - which he labels "lockstep liberalism" - in March of this year and observed that even asking a question was strictly forbidden:
Even asking questions is suspect. Today on Twitter, I asked “Question for those defending 99+ weeks of unemployment benefits; is there ANY point they should expire? If so, why and at what point?” That’s a fair question, I think and I’m interested in the answer. But immediately, my liberalism is questioned for even ASKING.
His post is eye-opening in many regards and is a "must read" for anyone wishing to understand the liberal mindset.
This explains why so many on the left hate Fox News. In many regards, the actual reporting is really not that different from other networks, but Fox does allow conservative opinion to be aired far more than other networks. In the view of the conditioned lockstep liberal, this is akin to heresy in the days of the Spanish Inquisition.
It also explains why liberal groups like Media Matters are openly engaged in a war to silence Fox News, and it explains the jihad waged against conservative talkers like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck.
There is another word for this - brainwashing.
Liberal media types know exactly what they are doing, and they know that if they utter the same smears repeatedly, their followers will eventually parrot the same talking points.
The result is a voter base unwilling to think for themselves. Instead of listening to reason, they instinctively react in anger.
Jason Mattera addressed this phenomenon in his book Obama Zombies: How the Liberal Machine Brainwashed My Generation.
There will always be those who wish to remain mindless, conditioned drones, but hopefully their impact will be minimized in the 2012 election.
But just in case some didn't get the memo: We are not racists for disagreeing with President Obama.
