The Naked Cowboy's mayoral withdrawal: Done with New York mayor race (Video)

The Naked Cowboy/YouTube

“Nobody has done more with less.” Robert John Burck, better known as The Naked Cowboy in Times Square, has announced that he’s pulled out of New York’s mayoral race because of the red tape involved.

Burck, originally from Cincinnati, Ohio started singing sans clothing in Venice Beach, Los Angeles and eventually became a fixture in Times Square. Lest you think Burck is  simply a good-looking airhead, consider this; he holds a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from the University of Cincinnati, he is an ordained minister and is officially registered as a marriage officiant by the City of New York.

Burck has an uncanny sense of marketing. He’s a regular at the French Quarter during the New Orleans Mardi Gras. In 2008 he filed a suit against Mars Inc., the makers of M&M’s for 6 million for alleged trademark infringement after the company put up a billboard with a scantily-clad blue M&M with a guitar against New York City backdrops.

To enter the mayoral race, candidates must navigate the sea of rules, including conflict-of-interest laws, and financial-disclosure forms. Failure to follow guidelines can lead to hefty fines or imprisonment. He’s already doled out $250.00 for failing to file a financial disclosure form. “I’m absolutely dropping out,” the Naked Cowboy said on Friday.
“What I want to do is stick with what I do best,” he explained. “It’s probably why I look like a naked cowboy, and Mayor Bloomberg looks like a mayor.”
