There is a lot of excitement around Naughty Dog’s “The Last of Us” and on Tuesday, Feb. 26, Michael Pachter shared that a PlayStation 4 version of “The Last of Us” is probably in development alongside the PS3 version.
While speaking with Gamertag Radio about the PlayStation 4’s software lineup, Pachter predicted that Naughty Dog’s “The Last of Us”, which will be released on PS3 this June, will be followed by a release on PS4, eventually.
"First-party... like what's The Last of Us going to be? That's coming out in June. Is it going to be next-gen too? Probably. My guess is that thing gets onto the next-gen. Watch Dogs is next-gen and current-gen, you know," stated Pachter.
In addition to “The Last of Us” becoming a cross-generation release, Pachter also feels that the majority of titles will see multiplatform release as first-party titles will be the only exclusives a console has unless a company is willing to pay for a third-party exclusive.
"A lot of guys are doing [cross-gen development] but it's really hard to be exclusive, it really is," Pachter continued. "So exclusives [are] going be only first-party titles unless, like I said, Epic did Gears of War exclusive because they got paid to be exclusive, and I'm not sure you're going to see those any more."
Naughty Dog delayed the release of “The Last of Us” from its original May release to a June 14 release, which is the last day of E3 2013. It is unlikely Sony will make any mention of a PS4 version of “The Last of Us” at E3 2013 as it would take away from PS3 sales of the title.
