Things changed when the Mongols invaded and attacked the region and since after the seventeenth century, the land was completely absorbed in Russia and placed under the full control of the USSR. The USSR actually did control the region for about 75 years. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in the year 1991, the region became an independent one. Immediately after gaining its freedom, the country started to embrace the culture of the western world, subsequently getting serious with democratic principles as well as internal reforms.
The economy of this region, however, depended on the economic influence of Russia for a long time. At the time, there wasn’t so much support and this meant there was a need for critical thinking, as that would be the only way to make this region a better place for current and future population.
