The irrationality of gun and magazine bans in America

We now know that David G of NBC gets a pass. You will recall that he willfully violated DC law by brandishing a 30 round magazine in Wayne LaPierre's face. If you wonder who LaPierre is, go to my Good Hill Press blog, and look at the top left. There you will see the link to join the NRA. LaPierre is the EVP of the NRA. While you are there, click on the link and join. While you are there, also join the SAF. These two organizations have done more than all others to advance firearms rights.

Now, back to David G. It seems like in spite of all the efforts, checks, and balances the Founders put in place, we still have elitists getting away with ignoring the law. Whether they are members of the US Tass, or elected officials, they prefer to think of themselves as just a little more equal than all the great unwashed masses.

What do these media and government elites do? They surround themselves with armed escorts while excoriating those who choose to provide for their own personal defense. They attempt to enact Goldilocks gun laws, regulating what guns and accessories law-abiding citizens may possess.

Regarding magazine capacity, they will say, "Why would anyone need one that will hold that many (30, 20, 10, 7)?" That is not the correct question. The correct question is this, "Is the life of the elitist any more valuable than that of John Q. Citizen?" I think not. So therefore, before calling for citizen magazine capacity bans, they should, in good faith, limit themselves to a single guard with a six shot revolver. Maybe they should require the guard to emulate Barney Fife, and keep only a single cartridge in his pocket. How about it David G? How about it Mayor Bloomberg? How about it Governor Cuomo?

No, they won't be giving up their cadres of armed escorts.

The magazine capacity bans, as meaningless and aggravating as they are, are not quite as serious as the calls to ban, and even confiscate firearms from law-abiding citizens. To what lengths are they willing to go? The elected officials who swore an oath to Protect and Defend seem to quickly forget what it is they swore the oath to, our Constitution. They don't understand that the Constitution and Bill of Rights are not a smorgasbord to pick and choose from, but a package deal for us all.

Do these elitists have any idea of the Pandora's box they are attempting to open. Do they realize the problems they would encounter by trying to confiscate a third to half billion firearms from otherwise law-abiding citizens. Do they understand that for many, "from my cold dead hands" means much more than a cheer at a college football ball game.

Are they willing to send officers door-to-door to enforce their ill-conceived laws? Are they willing to fill our jails with folks who, by the stroke of a pen, become criminals? Do they not understand that the firearms they are trying to ban, are exactly those the Founders were protecting with the Second Amendment? Do they care?

Last Friday, January 11, 2013, Shawn Hannity, posed this question on his show, "Do you think their ultimate goal is to disarm the American People?

A member of his audience, Lawrence Stone, answered, "Shawn, this is, yes its about intimidation, but it really goes beyond that, because its intimidation then its registration, then its confiscation, they're talking about it right now. and you know all these people want to ban these evil y'know AR-15's, and I'm Jewish. And I think, what would these people, these German Jews have done with a whole bunch of AR-15's, and stockpiles of weapons. They wouldn't have been murdered, y'know, and that cuts cuts deep in my community!"

So what is to be done? Do we contact our politicians and tell them in no uncertain terms that passage of these laws is a sure one-way ticket from Washington, like Jim Sasser got in 1994?

...or do we just lower our heads, and shuffle to the trains?
