Looking for a cocktail a little outside the ordinary for your Halloween imbibing? The United States is one of those grand countries where absinthe is not illegal, so this spooky green spirit would be a great base for a spooky evening!
Pernod Absinthe was the original Absinthe, dating back to 1789. Absinthe has a strong history, outlawed and revived all over the world for its insanely high alcohol proof that has caused some to hallucinate. (Pernod’s is a mighty 68%.) As Oscar Wilde said way back when… “Let me be mad…mad with the madness of Absinthe, the wildest, most luxurious madness in the world!”
You can try Pernod Absinthe at the Raines Law Room, where Pernod is the house Absinthe, or pick it up at any fine spirits store (like the Astor Center) for $65. To try your hand at your own cocktail, Pernod recommends The Green Beast! So spooky-sounding and Halloween apropos! Cheers!
The Green Beast by Pernod Absinthe
1 part Pernod Absinthe
1 part fresh lime juice
4 parts water
Cucumber slices
1 part simple syrup
Combine all ingredients, serve in a highball glass with plenty of ice.
** Pernod Absinthe was kind enough to supply a sample of their spirit.
