'The Elder Scrolls Online' adding first-person view, new screenshots released (Photos)

A plethora of previews for The Elder Scrolls Online hit Tuesday and fans of the series should take note of one important addition to the PC MMORPG. Zenimax Online listened to community feedback and is adding a first-person view.

The Elder Scrolls Online was initially introduced with a third-person camera that has become the traditional viewpoint for MMORPGs. However, The Elder Scrolls series is known for its first-person view and the change made for this online version of the franchise did not receive a warm welcome. Zenimax Online "heard the feedback" and is now implementing a first-person view according to previews released from both Destructoid and Polygon.

Game director Matt Firor explained to a theater full of game journalists that one of the pillars of the game is that when "you sit down and play the game, you want to make sure it feels like an Elder Scrolls game."

The first-person view will not be available when The Elder Scrolls Online beta launches in the coming months but it will feature the expected Elder Scrolls view of two arms being able to wield a weapon and magic or other combination.

Firor does say that the third-person view will grant certain advantages though.

"Since this is an MMO, you will be rolling in and out of first-person some, because especially in PvP you're going to want to see behind you a lot," he said. "But if you want that full-on PvE, first-person, you-see-your-hands just like in every other Elder Scrolls game, you can play that way."
