To the millions of television viewers on Sunday night who were watching the History Channel's epic mini-series "The Bible," it didn't take long for many of them to figure out to whom actor Mohamen Mehdi Ouzaani has a striking resemblance. The actor has an extremely strong visual, physical, and facial resemblance to President Barack Obama. The character Mohamen Mehdi Ouzaani plays in the motion picture is the character of the Devil.
During a brief scene in Sunday night's movie, Jesus Christ is tempted by the Devil as a close-up of the devil's detailed facial features were put on the screen. Though looking some years older than the president's current 51 years of age, the actor's well-chiseled facial characteristics are much like those of Barack Obama's. That's when social media such as Twitter lit up with notice of the obvious resemblance.
As of the time of the release of this article, the History Channel has not responded to inquiries about the striking similarities between the actor chosen to play the role and the president of the United States' appearance.
The mini-series is running five Sunday nights in a row, for two hours each broadcast. Sunday night's presentation was the third of the five in the series. The first installment was on March 3, 2013 when 13.1 million people watched the first episode. The second was a week later, on March 10, when 10.8 million watched. For this past Sunday night's third installment, Nielsen - the television viewing and ratings' company - has not released figured data yet regarding the number of viewers that saw the Obama-look-alike portray the Devil. The last two episodes will be next Sunday, on Palm Sunday, and on the following Sunday which means "The Bible" will conclude on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013.
Well-known television producer Mark Burnett - who created the television series "Survivor" - is the executive producer of "The Bible."
UPDATE: According to Yahoo! TV, the History Channel and "The Bible"executive producers - Mark Burnett and Roma Downey - have commented on the Obama-Devil controversy by releasing the following statement:
History Channel has the highest respect for President Obama. The series was produced with an international and diverse cast of respected actors. It's unfortunate that anyone made this false connection. History's "The Bible" is meant to enlighten people on its rich stories and deep history." In spite of the viral reaction to the similarities of the actor to Obama's appearance, the producers call the controversy "utter nonsense." (Photos above)
