The Bible miniseries: New Bible show premieres on History Channel

The Bible miniseries premiered Sunday on the History channel. The show, produced by Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, is a ten hour miniseries that retells stories from the scriptures for a whole new generation.

Mark Burnett, still known best for CBS’ “Survivor,” has provided a miniseries that many hope will give the History Channel a much wanted ratings boost. While not attempting to be preachy, the series hopes to retell familiar stories in a way that’s both enlightening and captivating for both children and adults alike.

The show doesn’t feature any well known actors. With that said, The Bible miniseries certainly appears to be inspired by “The Ten Commandments,” the beloved 1956 film that still continues to air on television.

For Downey however, this new miniseries provided a chance to allow a new generation of people to enjoy these stories in a new modern day context.

"We saw this as an opportunity engage people in new and exciting ways to consider these stories and re-experience them," said Downey, according to the New York Times.
