Spider-Man fans have been clamoring for an Sinister Six story line for years and it looks like they are going to get their wish. A dark and dangerous future, as well as threats from multiple villains are hinted at in first trailer for "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" released by Sony Pictures on Dec. 5, 2013.
Picking up after the events of the 2012 reboot, "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" finds Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) still searching for answers about his father's mysterious disappearance. As he struggles to balance the life of a hero with his relationship with girlfriend Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), Peter is thrown into battle with threats from new villains, Electro (Jamie Foxx) and The Rhino (Paul Giamatti).
Sony already has release dates for two more films, in 2016 and 2018 respectively, and it looks like they are setting up a larger universe and a future that will ultimately include the Sinister Six. In the comic books, the Sinister Six was a team of villains led by Doc Oc. Originally comprised of Vulture, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio, and Sandman, but expect Webb's Sinister Six to vary a little bit.
Directed by Marc Webb, the film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane Dehaan, Paul Giamatti, and Kansas City native Chris Cooper. "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" hits theatres on May 2, 2014.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 synopsis:
We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.
It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.
