Retired Navy Seal Marcus Luttrell, author of the book "Lone Survivor," about his military service in Afghanistan, suffered a heinous crime last week while at home here in the United States. Joy-riding thugs murdered his therapy dog.
He doesn't sleep well at night so was awake and heard a gunshot. He got up, got his gun, checked his Mom to be sure she was ok, checked his yard, saw a car with 4 men outside of it standing over the body of his dog, laughing and joking about killing her. She had been shot to death, and they looked like hunters admiring their kill.
Dasy was Marcus Luttrell's therapy dog - his rehab partner and best friend. Her name came from his fallen buddies in Afghanistan. Danny, Axe, Southern Boy and Yankee was how his Navy Seal squad was known - Southern Boy was Marcus' name, and his book, "Lone Survivor," chronicles the ordeal they all went through, leaving only Southern Boy alive.
The outrage Marcus shows in this clip is understandable. The perpetrators will likely face no more than 2 years in jail, and two of the men are only considered witnesses, not participants in the crime.
The state of Texas needs to look at their laws regarding the wanton killing of animals, especially companion animals. If this story triggers a change in those laws, there will at least be something good to come out of this tragedy.

What a sad story, I can only imagine the pain that he is feeling. Marcus you are a true American Hero!
america would be a lot better place if we had more people like marcus luttrel. weird timing...i had never heard of him or his story before and randomly picked up his book last week.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Marcus and his family. A true patriot.
There's a reason why I love dogs more then about 90% of the people I meet. I hope justice comes to the guilty that did this and it comes soon.
Infuriating! They should be jailed longer than that. And sued for taking away Luttrell's best friend and freedom.
Parents should require licensing or face sterilization to prevent spawn like this from infecting our society. These spineless excuses of human beings should be offered up to Marcus in the oldest form of justice...give him the opportunity to deliver his justice by his own hand, not only unconvicted, but celebrated. Shame on our society for doing nothing less.

This is definitely an "above the fold" story. and let's face it, if he's a Texan, He's local.
That being said. Marcus, you've done an excellent job as a Navy Seal, and we are on your side. You've done things I can't imagine doing, and I'm proud of you. My gut feeling is to take the people who did this to you out, now I just ask for you to have more restraint. These are just punk kids, They will be torn apart in prison, There's plenty of seals, plenty of people who love dogs, and hate what they did... it will be more hell than you will be able to dish out; don't put them out of their misery, let 'em suffer.

By the way, I think "... Danny, Max, Southern Boy and Yankee..." should read, Danny, Axe, Southern Boy and Yankee..." Axe was short for Matt Axelson.
As pointed out above the dogs name correct spelling is Dasy and it stands for Danny, Axe, Southern Boy and Yankee Boy. That was the nicknames of the members of his SEAL team. Danny Dietz, Matt Axelson, Marcus Luttrell, and Michael Mansoor, respectively. Michael received the Medal of Honor and all the others received the Navy Cross. If you have not read the book "Lone Survivor" you need to get it and add it to your library.

Heard the story for the first time this morning on Glenn Beck. Did a news search. Nothing but the Examiner and blogs. The reason newspapers and network news are tanking is very clear. Decorated Navy Seal captures killers of his therapy dog after 110 MPH chase through three counties is another great story that millions will never read or hear due to the fact that it portrays a wounded combat veteran in a good light. What other stories of brave Americans have been erased in the past decade?
Folks, the Lab's name is DASY. The four men on the mountain were Danny Dietz, Matt Axelson, Marcus Luttrell, and Michael Murphy (MOH recipient). Michael Monsoor (correctly spelled) also was a U.S. Navy SEAL and was posthumously awarded the MOH for conspicuous gallantry in Iraq, not Afghanistan. Understand that all folks are extremely upset over this heinous act perpetrated on Mr. Luttrell and his beloved DASY, but please don't post unless you know what you're talking about. Jes sayin'...
send the two to prison. put them in the section with the most disturbed prisoners. alert the prisoners that two guys who murdered the dog of a decorated navy seal are coming. and let justice do its work. i give them less than a week.

These thugs deserve to be shot and left for dead like they did to the dog. This is sooooo disgusting to hear!!
They should serve life without parole. They do this in Florida too!!! The guy that shoots the dogs is rich and buddy buddy with District Attorney and may get charged with a misdeamenor for shootting a gun, not the dogs.
It is a good thing for these thugs that Marcus had the training and self restraint not to shoot them. Unfortunately, he would have been the one going to prison if he had. I have a black lab who I love dearly. If someone shot him, there is no measure to how fast and how far I would go to blow the bastard(s) away.

That is HORRIBLE! I would be thinking of unspeakable things too. My pets are family members to me. I watch Animal Cops, and there are people that do less of a thing to animals and get longer time periods to serve than two years. That is ridiculous. They should serve no less than 5 years. They killed a creature that should be appreciated. It is a being that God created for our comfort and pleasure. I hope they pay. My condolences.
I would surely support the disappearance of Dasy's murderers. Who would really miss them?
