Texas dog beaten to death for chewing on earphones

A knife-wielding owner savagely attacked his dog after the dog allegedly chewed on some earphones.

According to Wednesday's KENS5 News, Juan Alejandro Mendoila, 29, has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty for the brutal attack which took place on Tuesday night in San Antonio, Texas.

Authorities were called out to an apartment complex after someone reported possible animal abuse. There, they discovered a blood-soaked dog lying on the sidewalk.

Officials were able to follow the trail of blood back to Mendoila's apartment.

Mendoila allegedly told the police that he punished his dog for chewing up his earphones. He stated that he had "spanked" the now grievously injured dog as a form of discipline.

Police determined that the object Mendoila was using to "spank" his dog with was a large survival knife with a serrated blade.

The dog, a brindle colored boxer mix, was critically injured in the attack. Authorities rushed Tiger to Animal Services for care, but the dog died shortly after emergency surgery was performed.
