Yesterday on May 15, 2014 Examiner.com was on the red carpet for the New York premiere of Netflix's smash hit "Orange Is The New Black," which premieres on Friday, June 6, 2014. This season we get a closer look at our favorite, darkly funny prisoners, their shifting alliances within Litchfield and conflicts we never saw coming.

Taylor Schilling plays Piper Chapman.

Tell us what Piper is up to this season.

I think Piper goes to places that we’ve never seen her before and I think she’s learning more about herself. She’s being put in situations she’s never really thought she’d be put in, so different parts of her are starting to emerge.

What do you like to watch besides “OITNB”?

Right now I’m watching this show called “Broadchurch." It’s so good I’ve only watched two episodes right now I’m so into it. And a friend of mine just gave me a season of “Survivor.” I’m not kidding and it’s actually really good. I don’t remember what season it is, but I’m really into it like 8 years behind the curve ball. And then I just finished “House of Cards,” also.

If you were to land in jail, what would it be for?

You know probably something really stupid, like I can’t remember things ... if I didn’t have help l feel like I would forget to do things. I feel like I’d be in for inadvertent tax evasion, just I didn’t realize the deadline was coming.

What has the show done for portraying women on TV?

Oh a tremendous amount by virtue of seeing the diversity of our cast I think that we’re bringing a little more wiggle room into popular culture. So like what it means to be a woman and what women look like and what women talk like and what women’s relationships look like and it feels more real to me.

Alysia Reiner returns to the show as Natalie Figueroa.

What are you wearing?

I’m wearing Carmen Marc Valvo and Alexis Bittar jewelry.

What can we expect this season?
A lot of surprises. A lot of complexity and you know my favorite thing about this season is it’s gut wrenching and hysterically funny at the same time. And that balance is an amazing thing.

What are the challenges of playing your character?

I say that you know sometimes I get scripts and it’s like opening a box of chocolates, like it is the biggest gift. Sometimes amazing scenes are really scary to play and scary to be that vulnerable so I think that’s it. And for me also I am so not Fig in real life so sort of building the balls and pretending to be that person is really hard.

Constance Shulman returns as Yoga Jones.

What can we expect this season?

You are seeing a much deeper side to people, because you’ve met them already. You already know everybody and so just like when you’re in a relationship with somebody it has to grow, it has to build and you either break up or you get back together or you see signs that you have to figure out “oh that person just threw me a curve ball am I going to hang in there with them?” So I would say the second season is we’ve been dating for months and now we’re seeing different sides to people. You will love this season even more I really think so.

Deborah Rush plays Carol Chapman, Piper’s mom.

Speak about working with Taylor.

She’s brilliant. Somebody that good looking should not be that talented and skilled because I was prepared to go “another pretty girl." She’s a great actress, a solid person, I’m proud to have her as my “daughter”.

Barbara Rosenblat plays Miss Rosa on the show.

How excited are you to be premiering Season 2?

I’m as excited as a bucket full of bunnies.

What can fans expect this season?

I think you can expect a widening of stories and story lines. The characters you’ve grown to love, you will know way more about them. It’s an astonishingly well written and exciting-oh my god- you know it’s like every week you think “what’s going to happen with this one and then that one and that one?” It’s so cleverly written.

Speak about working with creator Jenji Kohan.

Jenji is a genius! Isn’t that what the “J” is for genius? She’s bright, she’s so warm and witty and smart that’s why she’s created I think the most cutting edge television out there.
