'Survivor: Blood vs Water', Live Reunion After Show recap

Another season of "Survivor" is in the books! 27 down and at least three more to go (as the show has been renewed at least through a 30th season). Yes, Sunday night marked the end of "Survivor: Blood vs. Water" with the Live Reunion Show hosted by Jeff Probst, where the Sole Survivor was revealed and time was spent catching up with 19 of the 20 contestants (sorry Marissa!) from this season.

In case you missed it, here is the full recap of the Finale Episode. And here is an overview of what we learned and what was covered at the Live Reunion Show:

  • Tyson was crowned Sole Survivor. It was a vote of 7-1-0, with all but Vytas voting for Tyson to win the game (Vytas instead gave his vote to Monica). Poor Gervase received no votes. What was different this time out for Tyson? He credits his performance and focus to his girlfriend Rachel's "sacrifice" earlier in the season.
  • Monica Culpepper is one tough cookie. Man did she take an unexpected drubbing at the Final Tribal Council. She did prove to herself and the rest of the world that she is a "bad ass," one of many, apparently, in the Culpepper household.
  • Gervase's Strategy. He claims that he did have the though in the back of his head to possibly get rid of Tyson at some point, but that as the game progressed he found himself "backed into a corner." Tyson's late Immunity wins all but squashed his plans.
  • The Morett Girls. What would this season had been without Laura and Ciera? Both acted as the emotional heart of the season and really defined what the season's twist regarding "blood versus water" was all about. They talked a bit about Ciera's big moves this season, going to the rock draw and also voting out her mom. And how the two gained a lot of respect for one another from their shared experience.
  • Jeff Probst concedes that Colton only quit once. OK, he did and then he mentioned the two-time quitter thing more than once. Colton mentioned that he (yawn) has grown stronger from the experience and knows he needs to learn to get by on his own, without the help of others.
  • Everyone's Favorite, Rupert. There was no official Sprint Fan Favorite this season, but Jeff did take a rare opportunity to talk to the first person booted from the show. That normally doesn't happen, but that person is normally not Rupert. They talk about the whole "happy wife, happy life" that is a tried and true way to live one's life. Trust me.
  • John Cochran writes for the TV show, "The Millers." Cochran was live in the audience and they plugged his CBS show, "The Millers," and the writing gig he landed on the show soon after he won Survivor: Caramoan last year. They then played a funny skit with Cochran and "The Millers" star Will Arnett (I'd link to it, but can't seem to find it at this time).
  • Aras and Vytas rivalry is alive and well. Both brothers are closer, but still admit that they fight from time to time, as brothers do.
  • Big Brother is a tougher mental game than Survivor. According to Hayden, the only person on the planet who can compare the two. But he admits Survivor is obviously much more physically demanding. My question is, is Big Brother a tougher mental challenge than communicating with Kat?
  • Kat gives us a nice, awkward "Kat Moment." In a nearly indescribable exchange, Kat mentions something about being "top-heavy" in order to please her boyfriend Hayden. Did she get a boob job? Was she drunk? Does anyone know what the hell she was talking about?
  • Candice and John Cody. The perfect couple talked about the unique challenges the game brings when playing with a loved one, specifically a spouse.
  • Katie and Tina address their personal tragedy. In the show's most serious moment, Tina and Katie addressed the tragic recent passing of Tina's son, Katie's brother, Taylor. Tina urged viewers to wear their seat belts, since that was the cause of Taylor's death.
  • Season 28 was revealed. As always, the show closed with a teaser and a reveal of the upcoming Survivor season. Debuting in February 2014, it's "Survivor: Cagayan." The theme is "brawn vs. brains vs. beauty" and will feature an all-new returning players. Stay tuned to this column for more news as we get closer to the season and watch the video teaser at the top of this column.
  • Marissa was snubbed. Poor Marissa was the only cast member who did not get an opportunity to talk. I guess that's a better ration than in past seasons, but still. That's got to be a major bummer.
