Technology is the biggest cause of workers to waste time at the office says CareerBuilder in new research released today. Three of the top five time wasters are technology innovations according to a large online survey of U.S. managers and workers.
Cell phones and texting are biggest waste
Cell phones and texting are the biggest time wasters chosen by 50 percent of those surveyed. Twenty four percent of workers owned up that they spend at least one hour a day on personal calls, emails or texts. Twenty-one percent of workers calculate they take an hour or more in any given workday searching the Internet for non-work-related information or photos.
Other time wasters
Non-technology factors are also hindering high performance such as breaks, co-worker actions and meetings. See the slideshow for all ten time wasters.
Harris Poll conducted the national survey online on behalf of CareerBuilder from February 10 to March 4, 2014. The survey sampled 2,138 hiring managers and human resource professionals, and 3,022 full-time workers across all private sector industries and company sizes. Sampling error was around only two percentage points. CareerBuilder operates an online career site to help companies target and attract great talent.
