Masahiro Sakurai revealed a returning asset trophy for the forthcoming “Super Smash Bros. 4,” which is being released for the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. According to a report from Mii Gamer on Dec. 13, the game director provided a first look at the “Nintendogs” summoning item.

The same assist trophy previously appeared in “Super Smash Bros. Brawl,” which came out for the Nintendo Wii in 2008. By picking up the item, players will be able to summon a large puppy that obstructs a majority of the screen for several seconds before disappearing. Despite its relatively useless nature, the assist trophy appears to be making a comeback to “Super Smash Bros. 4.” You can find the “Nintendogs” screen, along with other shots from the crossover fighting game, in the slideshow to the left of this article.

The assist trophy features a Labrador puppy in “Super Smash Bros. Brawl.” For “Super Smash Bros. 4,” the development team decided to use a baby French Bulldog to fill the screen.

Nintendo has a planned release set for sometime next year for “Super Smash Bros. 4.” Both Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions feature the same playable character roster although the stages will be different. The Sora and Namco Bandai studios are responsible for the development of the fourth main entry of the “Super Smash Bros.” series.
