Super Bowl MVP Malcolm Smith celebrates Seahawks win at Disney World

After helping his team win Super Bowl XLVIII, Seattle Seahawks linebacker Malcolm Smith knew what he was going to do next. Just as the Disney commercial promised, Smith celebrated by going to Walt Disney World. On Feb. 3, less than 24 hours after the game, the Super Bowl MVP was enjoying the victory with a Magic Kingdom parade.

For the Magic Kingdom celebratory parade, Smith rode atop a convertible with Mickey Mouse, reports the Disney Parks Blog. Mickey and other Disney characters the cavalcade wore red, white and blue costumes that showcased the parade’s football theme. Balloons and confetti bursts in front of Cinderella Castle added to the festive atmosphere, as did the thousands of Disney guests and Seahawks fans who lined the parade route.

In talking about the Disney experience, Smith focused more on Mickey than himself.

"It’s cool to see all the kids looking at Mickey, and they’re like ‘Hi, Mickey. Hi, Mickey.’ The look on their faces just takes me back to when I was a kid and I felt like Mickey was my best friend.”

Smith also talked about his Super Bowl MVP performance, not just in terms of his accomplishments but those of his team. About those things, Smith said:

“Just hearing the song on the [Disney] commercial, it kind of reminded me of all the stuff I’ve been through to be in this moment: to overcome the things that I’ve overcome, to overcome the things that we overcame as a team. I wish we all could be here. We just have a great group of guys, and I just happen to be one of them who runs around and catches the ball.”

Smith appeared in the Magic Kingdom parade approximately 16 hours after the Seahawks’ win over the Denver Broncos. Right after the game, he was filmed answering the iconic Disney question that marks such milestone moments, “What are you going to do next?”

Smith, as is the tradition since 1987, responds by looking into the camera and saying, “I’m going to Disney World!” as part of the famous commercial. (He also said Disneyland, and different commercials will play in different regions.)

Smith’s “I’m going to Disney World” commercial, the 47th in the series, aired Monday morning on various networks. It features Idina Menzel, the voice of Elsa in Disney’s animated film “Frozen,” singing “When You Wish Upon a Star.”
