Karen, author of WhereDidUGetThat.com checks her DIY art
All the studs I see out there (the metal ones - not the “he-men”!) have inspired me to almost head over to my nearest “Michaels” and raid the craft department of their embellishing equipment. I have to say “almost” since I haven’t quite bit the bullet yet. Oh I’ve wandered up and down the aisles poking around the bins and scoping out the notorious “Bedazzler” with a jaded eye, trying to find the proper pyramid studs and some kind of tool sharp enough to poke through leather. But I’m scared to start. Classic fear of failure.
That’s why I am so thoroughly impressed with the spikers I have found online. Outrageously talented and brave, these DIY artists plunge their awls, darts or Exacto knives right into virgin leather and work away for days at a time studding boots, bags, jeans and the requisite biker jackets. When their sore fingers are through, a new and astonishing piece of fashion art is born – a one of a kind original. And nothing is cooler than a rebel decked out in studded black leather.
One such creative fashionista is my heroine and has been ever since I came upon her blog - “WhereDidUGetThat.com”. Rarely has any mortal rendered me as speechless with envy as this Englishwoman in New York has. Just look at Karen’s style! And she doesn’t take the easy way out buying ready made high end designer duds all the time. Frequently she’ll go the vintage route with finds from cool little resale shops. She knows precisely when to pounce on unbelievable buys at New York City’s “Topshop” or "Forever 21" and wind up with the very thing Kate Moss has deemed “it”. If she can't find it ready made she'll find innovative ways to recreate the look. Karen studs so many things it is quite dizzying. If only I could follow her lead as seen here:

I need a bedazzler I guess. I just don't do the tough black leather thing too much
I tried the look in a low key way.. a few on the pockets of my jeans!
Thanks for the fashion tip! You have a great flair!
I hear you. as much as I like studs, I find myself majorly craft-impaired, so everything I try to make by hand turns out a disaster. Except cooking, thanks goodness, I can do that.
But adding my beloved studs myself to a bag or boots? Yikes, I cannot even think of the results.
