Two students at the Gateway Charter High School in Ft. Myers, Fla., witnessed a teacher putting a puppy into the trunk of a car, reported Monday's Wink News Now.
The teacher was 28-year-old Mathew Emans, who was cited for animal cruelty after a school resource officer, who was alerted by the concerned students, found a four-month-old pit bull puppy in the trunk of his Mercedes.
Emans allegedly told the officer that he was:
"only working a half day,"
And he allegedly explained that the pup was in the trunk for "just a few hours."
The puppy rescued from the trunk was already showing signs of stress from the heat, which registered at over 150 degrees at the car window.
Emans surrendered his rights to the puppy, who was taken to the Lee County Domestic Animal Services facility.
