New screenshots of the Xbox LIVE Arcade and PC game, State of Decay, were released Tuesday. The new images are used to illustrate some of the features found in the open-world zombie survival title like ranking up your skills, surveying the land and inventory management.

State of Decay gives players the freedom to play as the same character through the game or to switch to other survivors that are rescued. Each character comes with their own traits that are inherent and rarely change. However, skills can be developed through use over time. This is illustrated in the screenshots by the character leveling up the "Strong" skill by bashing zombies with a shovel.

The game will also let players scout different areas of the world by climbing up to high spots across the map. On top of being able to safely scout where the zombie hordes are located, they'll also be able to locate buildings, survivors, vehicles, and mission opportunities by surveying safely from high.

Inventory management is given an interesting spin in State of Decay as the game uses supply lockers to store an entire community's rations. Each individual character can then retrieve supplies from the locker depending on what they've contributed to the community.

The screenshots also sow the breadth of the number of supplies that can be amassed in the game. There are multiple versions of molotov cocktails, grenades, timers, medicine and other items. Each item is also given a description that can suggest more than one use for it.

State of Decay does not currently have a release date for the Xbox 360 or the PC.
