The Mayan Calendar
Within the last five years, the talk of the coming date of December 21, 2012 has flooded the spiritual arena. Numerous books, websites, magazines and web blogs have been produced to explore views as to its actual meaning. The year of 2012 and the implications implied by many cultures of the changes ahead are fast becoming shall I dare say 'mainstream'. USA Today ran an article in 2007 titled; "Does Maya calendar predict 2012 apocalypse." Although attempting to debunk the theory that the Mayans might have actually known what they were talking about, the 12/21/2012 date has many people talking, including USA Today. With a staggering amount of speculation available on the subject, my question today is; How do we make sense of all this information? What do we believe? What role do we have in changing global consciousness?
To start, December 21, 2012 is the proposed end date of the Mayan Calendar. It is the day, specifically, when the ancient Mayan civilization predicted the world coming to an end of a cycle. There are hundreds of books and articles written on this very subject, all with variations of its actual meaning of end times. There are supporters and skeptics of all types but most fall into two categories; end-of-time apocalypse such as portrayed in the new movie 2012 or a rebirth and renewal of consciousness through a spiritual age of awakening, written about in numerous books (see list below).
Throughout written history, many civilizations and religions have spoken of a type of ending of the world, all with different variations of how it is going to pass. In the spiritual community, there is an awareness that we are already changing rapidly within, leading to a jump or shift in consciousness that will end the world as we know it, followed by an earth and humanity that exists in peace and harmony. To try and make sense of all the theories out there could be an extensive undertaking. However, when we look within ourselves and seek answers that best fit our individual needs, based upon our individual beliefs, we can then shape our own consciousness. It is this approach that gives us the power to change the world as we know it, by starting with ourselves. The spiritual truth and now scientific belief that we are all individual parts of a larger, one consciousness, allows us to affect the larger conscious with intent through our thoughts, beliefs, feelings and actions.
Many spiritualists feel there is a definitive split within consciousness now, forming the two support groups spoken of above; that of support for unrest and apocalypse or that of peace and spiritual awakening. Whichever we choose to partake in, grows within our experience. Regardless of what 2012 predictions attempt to convey, we have within us the capability to consciously choose our part in it. When choosing to involve ourselves in spiritually supportive groups and communities, conscious meditations and workshops or just being peaceful and loving in all we do, we bring our own, as well as humanities consciousness and awareness into a higher place.

Did you know orthodox Jewish priests prophesied in the Zohar 700 years ago that their messiah will return in 2012? Thanks for the Information Samuel Strickland. And wow...all these talk and blogs that I have been finding is all-related about the same facts. And personally I think, that it just depends on how civilization deals during 2012. So its no biggie because I think its all about how we as in "PEOPLE" handle ourselves during 2012. So Don't Be Afraid(PEOPLES)and just be cautious around that time~.
A great article. 2012 will definitely mark the beginning of the end as we know but I think we've already gotten started! I think we can all agree with the current global crisis humanity is at a crossroads and where we go from here is entirely up to us. For "Donna Anderson"; please note that there were NO "orthodox Jewish priests" 700 years ago - because the Temple in Jerusalem (center of the Jewish Faith) was completely destroyed in 70 AD (1,239 years ago) and ALL the priests were killed by the Romans. There were, of course, Rabbi's predicting things 700 years ago, but Rabbi's do not enjoy the magical powers of the ancient Temple priests, and their mistakes can be demonstrated.
Also note that the vaunted "Mayan Long Count Calendar" which is supposed to have predicted everything of importance that happened in the World since the Mayan calendar began some 61 years after the death of Adam (yes, that Adam!), did NOT predict the Great Flood of Noah - although 19 major ancient civilizations including the Hopi Indians, mention it in their writings. How they missed that one, is hard to understand!

My understanding is that a basic tenet of kabbalistic thought is that each individual's thoughts, words and actions influence the entire world (aka collective consciousness). I believe this to be true. Therefore, when people wail "What can I do? I'm only one person." the answer is: be very careful of everything you think, say and do, because these things are constantly influencing the world for better or worse. Study, learn, pray and perform good deeds. We are all responsible, whether we realize it or not.
