'SNL' outs Santa: He's 'black as hell,' Megyn Kelly

According to the Dec. 14, 2013 "Saturday Night Live Weekend Update" (SNL) skit, Megyn Kelly should get the message: Her "white Santa" is "black as hell." SNL's comedy take followed the controversy which has boiled since Kelly assured children of the world that Santa always had been and always would be white.

If it's any comfort to Kelly, even though SNL recolored Santa in black, Santa's better half was allowed to remain the color of political incorrectness, lily white. However, the politically correct interracial marriage was, arguably, very politically correct.

Santa Claus appeared live, played by Kenan Thompson. As Santa, he sought to enlighten viewers to the advantages of keeping his blackness a secret all of these years. Primarily, Santa has kept his color under wraps in order to avoid being pulled over when he is trying to make those late night chimney drops to deliver gifts.

All in all, the skit was as provocative as Kelly when she deliberately chose Santa's lack of skin pigment as a topic for her show. Kelly pushed all of the buttons sure to fan the fires of racist controversy.

Kelly's best defense line was, "Kicking off the light-hearted segment, I offered a tongue-in-cheek message for any kids watching," The black Santa's best line was, "If Mrs. Claus was black, Santa would be living in Atlanta -- near Obama."

For some reason, it was difficult to keep from watching for a black Popeye to pop in to join Santa, reminding us all, "I yam what I yam." Perhaps Megyn Kelly will affirm Popeye's whiteness as soon as someone writes an opinion piece saying Popeye should be black.

In the meantime, many aren't at all concerned about the color of Santa, it's the spirit of Santa they are focused upon. For all of the others, maybe Santa has the best attitude: "Ho, ho, ho!"
