Country singer Tim McGraw is in the best shape of his life at 45, thanks to a healthy diet and rigorous workouts. McGraw, who recently quit drinking, has developed a ridiculously ripped physique since losing 40 pounds a few years ago.
"I like to eat. I like food. That is one of the reasons that I throw that extra hour of working out in," Tim told People. "I'll eat a cheeseburger now and then, and I love sweet tea."
McGraw, who has the rippling six-pack abs of a professional bodybuilder, says dieting and working out before going on tour is part of his job as an entertainer.
"No one wants to grow up to be a rock star to sing the same song over and over again in a studio," says Tim. "The reason you want to do this is to be in front of thousands of people, playing that guitar and doing what you love. And when I'm on stage, I want to feel good."
To maintain his age-defying physique, the buff 6-foot McGraw follows a high-protein diet that features plenty of fresh vegetables, fruit and salads.
McGraw, who has a new album called "Two Lanes of Freedom," is preparing to go on tour in May, and is training three times a day with martial-arts expert Roger Yuan to get in top shape.
"We work with pulleys, bars and do core training, strength and balanced movements to build up the muscles between the ribs and connective tissues," says Yuan, who also trained Daniel Craig to play James Bond.
"I have trained a lot of people and many are hard workers. But Tim is another animal. I have to reign him in and have to tell him, 'You can't do that much.' There is no quitting in him."
