According to the Washington Post, R&B singer Chris Brown was arrested early Sunday outside a Washington hotel and charged with felony assault, a D.C. police spokesman said.
The altercation happened at 4:30 a.m. local time outside the W Hotel on 15th street near the White House, D.C. Police Director of Communications Gwendelyn Crump said.
Brown, 24, and 35-year-old Chris Hollosy were charged with felony assault. They remain in custody while an investigation is ongoing.
Police said there were no weapons involved but could not immediately provide information about the circumstances of the altercation, which was first reported by the Web site TMZ.
Brown and Hollosy are expected to remain in custody pending a court appearance Monday, according to D.C. Police spokesman Paul Metcalf.
Brown is on probation after pleading guilty in 2009 to attacking his then-girlfriend Rihanna on the night before the Grammy Awards. He was sentenced to community service and five years of probation. Since then he has had several run-ins with law enforcement officials.
In June 2012, New York City police investigated a bottle-throwing bar brawl involving the entourages of Brown and hip-hop star Drake.
In February, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department closed its investigation of an alleged parking space dispute between Brown and R&B star Frank Ocean.
There is also ongoing controversy over Brown’s court-ordered community service in the 2009 conviction involving Rihanna. Los Angeles prosecutors have said in court filings reported by the Associated Press that they could find no evidence that Brown ever completed his hours.
His probation was revoked briefly earlier this year after a hit-and-run incident, and he was given 1,000 more hours of community service to perform. There were allegations that he may have skated on some or all of the 1,400 hours he was first assigned.
