Should owning a giant pink inflatable pig make you a 'prohibited person'?

"Lawsuit planned after protesters put on terror list," a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review headline tells us.

What on earth could that be about?

[Pennsylvania] paid a Philadelphia-based nonprofit $125,000 to compile the list as part of the state Homeland Security's federally mandated mission to protect public infrastructure.

And Gene Stilp of Harrisburg's name was apparently on it.

Why? What terror threat does he pose?

Stilp said he believes he was among those monitored, based on [Governor] Rendell's comment that a 25-foot inflatable "pink pig" Stilp takes to rallies was included in the monitoring...Stilp owns the pig and frequently displays it at the Capitol at protests over what he sees as government excesses.

And then what happened?

Homeland Security officials distributed the list in a security bulletin to government and law enforcement officials — including Pittsburgh City Council members — as well as universities and gas drilling companies.

I'm surprised they didn't also give it to newspapers demanding to publish lists of concealed carry permit holders--after all, the argument for that is they're public records. Besides, don't you want to know who the extremists/terrorists/hatriots in your neighborhood are?

At first, Gov. Rendell agreed a government list of protesters was "'tantamount to trampling' on their Constitutional rights." He's since had a John Kerry instant polar shift moment, and is now merely "deeply embarrassed."

Rendell, of course, knows a thing or two about trampling on Constitutional rights. Some of us consider him an expert.

The thing is, now that they've got their list, what should we do with it?

If we're to listen to Sen. Frank Lautenberg, Mr. Stilp and everyone else on the list should now be designated "prohibited persons," and forbidden from buying a gun.

If we're to listen to Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, Mr. Stilp and everyone else on the list should now be designated "prohibited persons," and forbidden from buying a gun.

If we're to listen to the Brady Campaign, Mr. Stilp and everyone else on the list should now be designated "prohibited persons," and forbidden from buying a gun.

If we're to listen to the Violence Policy Center, Mr. Stilp and everyone else on the list should now be designated "prohibited persons," and forbidden from buying a gun.

Even our wonderful watchdog media "Authorized Journalists" like ABC News want in on this act, not to mention Harry Reid's new BFF, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his Mayors Against [Your] Guns cabal.

Am I being unfair because they're all talking about an FBI list? Where do you think the FBI gets the names they include on theirs from?

Oh, that's right, we don't know. It's a secret.

Me, I think we can't do enough to stop the giant inflatable pink pig menace.

If it saves one life.

For the children.

Now if I could only embed Porky Pig doing his signature sign-off...it would seem the appropriate metaphor.

    David,

Next time the pig is up and flying, make sure the splendid swine backs up to the doors of the nearest FBI office and drops a load of hot, steaming fertilizer where it belongs!

    Cheers and great article!

Robert again-Once again the insane are ruling the insane asylum known as the government. The moment a government can use national security to deprive people of their rights including that of peaceful demonstration with a pink pig this country is no longer free for it's citizens.A friend once told me that if I was not on someone's list (meaning government) I was not doing my job as a citizen because there was always someone in government who wants control/power. When I refuse to give that to him/her by surrendering my rights I will be on his/her "list". Long live the pink pig as one more sign of freedom and free choice under the Bill of Rights.

Interesting. I Googled "ITRR" and saw that for the web site www.terrorresponse.org was the heading "Institute of Terrorism Research and Response", with the body "ITRR is the preeminent Israeli/American security firm providing training, intelligence and education to clients across the globe. ..."
No wonder that they do not like giant pink pigs.

I also noted that there was another ITRR site: "The Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research was created in 1987 to conduct research on travel, recreation and tourism. Located in The University of Montana, College of Forestry and Conservation, ITRR serves as the research arm for Montana's tourism and recreation industry."

Speaking of humor, you can see what the cosmopolitans of the Brady Center are up to by typing in "Armalite AR-10" into the google search engine. They are the lead sponser of the page with ads like: "Your Second Amendment is protected by sensible background checks" as well as other variations thereof!

Useful idiots are the tools of the true believers. But those Americans who spy on others for profit...Treason.

Lists are a good thing. Do you know where every fed, state and local government office is within your AO? You should. Do you know where the employees live? You should. Do you know where the Government Contractors work and live? You should...because they ALL know where YOU live.

If the time ever comes when they begin to round up the folks on their lists, it will be time for Patriots to go to work.

    I'm with you, Sam.
Excellent article again, David. I greatly appreciate sarcasm directed at those who debase our freedoms. How I wish when Obama answered some question about his unconstitutional policies, the reporter would break into uncontrollable, hysterical, rolling on the floor laughter. It would be a film strip that would last for centuries.

That's right! We're all little piggys now!

And that's just how they view us and yes, it is shaping up to be us against them.

David, Wayne Madsen is reporting that the company in question is an Israeli intelligence front operating on US soil spying on US citizens.

As far as disqualifiers go “ABSLOUTLY NOT” I have been against these phoney disqualifiers day one. They are subject to fraud and misinterpretation and should be abandoned.

The NRA supported a change in Illinois law this year (SB3421) that allowed Illinois to seek a grant from the federal government to upgrade the computer system used for the FOID card data base. The current computers were old and not able to interface with other agencies.

With help from the NRA people on the terror and No fly list and the list that disqualify veterans can NOW be added to the FOID card disqualifiers.

"No freeman shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson in his draft constitution for the State of Virginia.

I'm pretty sure we would all agree that letting Charles Manson loose on the streets with a loaded firearm might not be such a good idea. In fact that feeling was so wide spread that most states had "prohibited persons" lists, in particular prohibiting convicted violent felons, long before the addoption of GCA68 at the federal level. The problem with having such lists is that there's always someone who wants to add another category to them. Witness how the Lautenberg Amendment has recently prohibited anyone who has a misdemeanor domestic violence conviction and has now been expanded to those under a restraining order. As David has suggested, I'm of the belief that any adult who can't be trusted with a firearm cannot be trusted in public without a minder. I tend to go him one better and say in most cases they should be locked up.
