Selena Gomez, Neil Patrick Harris, and John Krasinski are just some of the celebrities involved in the project What Book Got You Hooked?, a First Book initiative.

Morgan Freeman, David Duchovny, Edward Norton, and Stephen Colbert are also featured, among many other celebrities. First Book is a charity that works to give children from low income families the opportunity to read by facilitating their access to the first books of their own. The project is, of course, not exclusive for celebrities, and everybody is invited to vote for the state they believe should receive 50,000 new books for children in need. Voting, in this case, means sharing what book first introduced the world of reading to the voter's life.

Votes can be cast until September 30th at the project's website, where visitors also get access to more information and the option to make a donation.

The participating celebrities are helping to raise awareness about the initiative by sharing what book got them hooked. Selena Gomez says, "My favorite book was the Max and Ruby series. I've always wanted a little brother and I enjoyed the stories of Max to Ruby." For Neil Patrick Harris it was Bridge to Terabithia: "[It] was a book my mother read to my brother and me before we would go to sleep. Well written, beautiful imagery, full of imagination. Quite an emotional ending, though. Mom stopped reading it aloud for weeks, finding excuse after excuse as to why she was busy. We finally forced her and, sure enough, we all had a good cry." The Office's John Krasinski, on his part, says he got hooked with James and the Giant Peach, "There were so many great books I read growing up. I was always a huge fan of all things Roald Dahl. Every book from James and the Giant Peach to The BFG to The Witches, nobody wrote more imaginative stories for kids. These worlds he created had the nonsensical appeal of Dr. Seuss, while at the same time, the characters were all written with wonderful complexities and enormous heart. It was a feast for any imagination! And with so many great books, short stories and poems to choose from, you could go on an adventure any day of the week!"

It is certainly inspiring to find out that so many celebrities are willing to share their time and experiences for causes as worthy and all together positive as doing all that is possible to make sure that children get to discover reading, regardless of their economic situation.
