Scenic tours: Cincinnati to Frankfort KY ride features twists, turns, troubles

Anyone who’s spent much time on a motorcycle has a favorite ride. Some prefer scenic routes. Others pursue the challenge of twists and turns (with relative freedom from speed traps). The route from Cincinnati to Frankfurt, Kentucky, is a personal favorite of area resident John Johnson.

The Cincinnati-to-Frankfort route of just over 100 miles:

Exit 275 at Exit 11 (KY8/Idlewild Bypass) toward Petersburg;

Straight onto KY20/Petersburg Rd;

Follow KY20 through Petersburg toward Belleview and McVille;

Turn right on KY18/Burlington Pike, follow 18 through Belleview and McVille, continuing south;

Straight onto KY338/East Bend Road, follow KY338 toward Rabbit Hash(to enter Rabbit Hash, turn right onto Rabbit Hash Hill Road, otherwise stay on KY338);

Continue on KY338 to US42/127, turn right;

US42/127 to US127, turn left toward Glencoe;

US127 through Glencoe toward Owenton;

US127 through Owenton, continue straight onto KY227/22 at the south edge of town;

Turn right onto KY227/Georgetown Road, follow KY227 through Stamping Ground, continuing on to US460;

Turn right onto US460 toward Frankfort.

The route looks far more complicated to read than it is to ride. The touring rider will most enjoy the visit to Rabbit Hash and its iconic General Store, and views of the Ohio River and the Kentucky State Capitol in Frankfort.

For the sporting rider, the route offers twenty-five miles of nearly constant turns (between Owenton and 460), decent visibility; excellent pavement, except a few unmarked patches that are treacherous.
