Actor Columbus Short, 31, is making the headlines again, but not for his endeavors in the acting arena. Short, who until recently portrayed the character Harrison Wright in the popular ABC TV drama “Scandal,” was arrested in the early morning hours of July 5 in Dallas, Texas, trying to leave a local Dallas beer garden and restaurant. A spokesperson for the Dallas Police Department said that Short was arrested for public intoxication.
The arrest came around 2 a.m. on Saturday according to CNN. This latest news propels the actor into the tabloids along with Justin Bieber and Lindsay Lohan as the dark side of his personal life now overshadows his acting.
In May, according to The Huffington Post, Short was in court facing felony battery charges after “allegedly punching a man at a Los Angeles restaurant.” The alleged punching incident occurred in March. Short pleaded not guilty to those charges.
In April, Short’s wife, Tanee Short, “accused him of threatening to kill her and himself with a knife.” Tanee later had a restraining order imposed on Short to keep the actor away from her and the couple’s 2-year-old daughter, Ayala. Tanee also filed for a divorce. Not too long after those marital headlines hit the news, Short announced that he would not be returning to reprise his role as Harrison Wright in “Scandal.”
Regarding his most recent arrest, TMZ reported that Short had been drinking for about four hours at the Katy Trail Ice House in Dallas when a witness there said it looked as if he tried skipping out on his bar tab. When approached by a security guard, Short started screaming and accused the guard of being a racist. Short ended up in a scuffle with the guard, who also just happened to be African American.
When a few off-duty cops intervened, Short started screaming at them too and allegedly tried attacking them. And that’s when the former “Scandal” star was arrested.
Short also has a history of domestic violence charges and was arrested in February following a domestic violence incident with his wife Tanee. For more on Short, see the video accompanying this article.
