On December 6th, 2011 Global Green USA held its 7th Annual Gorgeous and Green San Francisco Gala and benefit.
The eco-glamorous event took place at the Bently Reserve, a beautiful San Francisco LEED-certified green building owned by devoted green leaders Christopher and Amber Marie Bently. The night was filled with eco-conscious stylish guests dedicated to making a difference.
Powerful tandem Zem Joaquin and Nadine Weil orchestrated the French-inspired Moulin Rouge event.
When asked what it meant to host such an benefit, this is what co-chair of event Zem Joaquin had to say: ”Sharing the green message, connecting green supporters and amazing people in a venue like this gives me the most joy.”
Nadine Weil her co-chair was proud to add: ”Hosting this event is a dream come true for me. It is what I am all about. I lead an eco-conscious life style and for me it is by far the most glamorous and healthiest thing to do.”
The night began with a cocktail party where guests enjoyed organic appetizers by Taste Catering and showcasing Marin Sun Farms, K&J Orchard, Liberty Farms, Catalan Farms and Zuckerman Farms.
Following the cocktail party, dinner guests were treated to a three course meal. Each course masterfully prepared and in order of sequence by chefs Joseph Humphrey of Dixie, Michael Mina of MICHAEL MINNA and Bill Corbett of Absinthe.
Guests savored the succulent creations while listening to an enchanting musical performance by Michelle Branch.
Herself a huge supporter of Global Green USA, Branch has embraced Green Living after her daughter was born and re-evaluated every facets of her life. The soft spoken and delightful artist suggests to know your farmers and support them. “The minute you start to know where your food comes from, you will develop a deep connection with it,”Michelle shares.
Shortly after the performance, enthusiastic and dynamo Matt Petersen, CEO of Global Green announced the Eco- Accolades winners:
Levi’s was awarded for their Levi’s waterless collection. It is a denim line that saves as much as 96% water in the finishing process. With 12 million pairs, the Levi’s brand saved more than 172 million liters of water. They also partnered with water.org to help deliver sustainable water and sanitation solutions around the globe.
Ebay was awarded for their Common Threads initiative and partnership with Patagonia to launch Common Threads and encourage reuse. This is the 1st time eBay has worked with a specific retail brand to enable the buying and selling of used clothes.
Global Green also announced the winner of its National Green School Makeover Competition presented by Pureology: the Texas School for the Deaf. The school won $65,000 for their green school project.
The event expanded into the much awaited eco-fashion show featuring eco-designs from Sara Shepherd, Karen Caldwell Design, Mina+ Olya and Oliver Tolentino.
Exquisite jewelry pieces by Amber Marie Bently with accessories by Make Love Not Trash completed the looks.
British born and San Francisco resident Sara Shepherd, delighted the fashionistas in the room with her elegant yet classic silhouettes with a modern twist.
Karen Caldwell Design unveiled pieces from her new collection. Their uniqueness and Hollywoodish flair were a big hit. Taylor: a blue strapless evening gown in knit organic cotton was a favorite for many.
" I'm making dresses for women who have life experience, and a confidence in their strength and beauty; a woman who is not afraid of color, and wants the room to notice when she enters,” states Caldwell.
The regal designs from Mina+Olya showed the world you don’t have to sacrifice elegance to be environmentally conscious. “We believe consciously made apparel can feel rewarding to wear when you know it was made from the highest quality fabrics,” mention Mina and Olga.
The eco-fashion show ended with a splash of “deliciously” vibrant colors featuring fine gowns made of sustainable pineapple fabric from Oliver Tolentino’s collection.
Named the Valentino of the Philippines, Tolentino is fast becoming a favorite fashion designer among Hollywood celebrities and has dressed Sophia Bush, Dancing with the stars Karina Smirnoff, Amber Riley (Glee) to name a few.

Last but not least: Lincoln MKZ Hybrid (one of the most fuel efficient luxury sedan in the USA) a proud sponsor of the event, celebrated the launch of the Green Schools Mobile Application powered by Lincoln MKZ Hybrid.
“It takes the green school project make over that Global Green USA has been involved with to another level. It will help schools who do not have the means to do full renovation projects. The Application provides a step-by-step evaluation process for students and teachers to measure classroom’s natural day lighting, temperature, indoor air quality, accoustic and energy use. The App will help schools to be a healthier place for our kids,” States Jim Peters Manager for Lincoln Communications.
The benefit was a huge success, guests left inspired by sustainable technologies and eco-conscious initiatives that are making a difference in the lives of students and families throughout the Bay Area and nationally.
