San Diego Beatle Fair a big success, organizer says

The attendance at Saturday's 2014 San Diego Beatle Fair held at Queen Bee's Art & Cultural Center made organizer Dave Humphries, whose band was among those playing at the event, very happy, he said in an interview with Beatles Examiner.

“It was packed from 12 to 11 p.m.,” he told us. (You can see pictures from the show in the slideshow on this page.)

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, over 600 Beatles fans attended the one-day event that featured Beatle authors Ken Mansfield, who was the former U.S. manager of Apple Records, John Borack (“John Lennon: Life Is What Happens”) and Chuck Gunderson, whose recent book, “Some Fun Tonight!,” documents the Beatles' U.S. tours. The show also included music from tribute bands Britain's Finest, Baja Bugs and Rockola.

One of the highlights was a special tribute by the Dave Humphries Band to Tony Sheridan. Sheridan was the special guest at last year's event.

“The dedication my band did for Tony Sheridan was nicely received by the audience,” Humphries said. “Most had been to his last concert (at last year's event).”

The Beatle fans in attendance came from all ages.

“Look at all the people you see here,” Borack told the Union-Tribune. “There will always be an interest in this music. It’s timeless. It crosses all generations.”
